Goldwing Warranty Check List – FOR ENGINES

All engines come with our standard 6 month parts only warranty.  Part and labor warranty are available at the time of sale only, for an additional cost. Failure to ask about or purchase labor warranty releases Goldwing from all labor claims.  Labor charges are not under any circumstances to be paid, unless otherwise stated on your invoice.

We want you to have great results with your engine so it is imperative that the below items are completed, without them your warranty will not be honored

In the unlikely event that you have a problem with your engine you must provide dated paperwork proving ALL the below items were completed by a qualified shop, so save all your documentation, invoices, and receipts.  No paperwork, no warranty, no exceptions.

Engine Checklist:

  • Turn over engine crankshaft at least 2 full 360° degree turns BEFORE installation (720°).  If this is not done, warranty is automatically voided. Turning the engine over the wrong direction can jump timing and damage the engine.
  • Inspect all gaskets and seals.  Replace if necessary.
  • If you purchased a 5.0L, 3.0L, or 2.0L  Land Rover Engine you are required to put on updated timing chains, tensioners, and guides. Unless they were done before leaving our facility which would be noted at sale on your invoice.  For 5.0l and 3.0l you must also replace all plastic coolant tubes that hook to the engine with new ones, failure to do so, or have an invoice from a certified shop proving this was done at install will void your warranty.  We do not cover timing issues on these engines, or oil leaks, or overheated engines.
  • If you purchased a 3.9L, 4.0L, 4.2L or a 4.6L Discovery or Range Rover Engine, we require new head gaskets, head bolts be installed before installation. Failure to do so, or have an invoice from a certified shop proving this was done at install your warranty will be void. We do not cover bad head gaskets on these engines, or engine leaks
  • Install the following:  new water pump, new thermostat, new rear main seal, install all new belts and hoses where applicable, new air filter, new fuel filter, and install and gap new spark plugs.
  • Proper engine oil priming method as specified by manufacturer must be followed.  Engines that are starved for oil at startup can fail, and will not be covered.
  • Change engine oil and replace oil filter. Change oil and filter again after 500 miles of driving, you must provide documentation that this was done.
  • Add new anti-freeze/coolant. (We don’t require, but highly recommend that you buy a new radiator, or take your old one to a professional radiator shop and have it back flushed, flow tested, leak tested, and “rodded-out” if needed.)
  • The supplied engine is supplied with multiple heat tabs attached to it.  Any melted, or tampered heat tabs on the engine will void your warranty. We do not warranty engines that have been overheated.  In the event of the engine failure we will request pictures of the heat tabs on the engine.
  • Engine MUST be installed within 30 days from the date of delivery or Warranty is VOID.
  • After install, change oil at proper intervals in accordance with vehicle manufacturer’s guidelines or no more than every 5000 miles, you must retain receipts for this.
  • You must have a repair order from a certified shop that all this work was done, the receipt must have your vin number and accurate mileage, and dates that matches what was given when the engine was sold to you.
  • In the event that there is an engine failure you may be asked to have the engine torn down to the point of failure.  In the event the failure is found to be something we do not warranty, or something that we are not liable for as outlined above, you will be responsible for the labor charges associated with this.
  • We reserve the right to request having our engine sent back to us prior to sending a replacement in certain instances.
  • If you have a labor warranty, warranty payments will be made directly to the qualified shop that has installed the part.  No labor payouts will be sent out until we have received the failed engine.

Labor claims will be paid based on Mitchell’s Labor Guide at a rate of $75.00 per flat rate hour, up to the limit of warranty coverage. This is intended to lessen the financial impact of warranty repairs to the shop in the unlikely event that a part failure occurs and is not intended to cover all costs involved.

Labor claims are limited to the amount and duration of coverage purchased only and may only be used for one warranty repair/ replacement. Multiple claims against the same part are not allowed, regardless of incidence of part failure.

ALL Warranty claims require approval of Goldwing before work is done.

Warranty claims will be paid only upon the completion of warranty work as agreed with installing shop. It is the purchaser's responsibility to retain the original invoice and present it for any warranty claim.
